Cheng Yajie was born in Beijing in 1958. He graduated from the Tianjin Arts and Crafts School, and Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in Department of oil painting.

In 1990, he was at the Soviet Union Mosikesu Cove Academy of Fine Arts.

In 1991, he was the Austrian representative of fantastic realism at Wolfgang Hutter's "Master Class," in the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

In 1994, his oil painting "My Precious" was included in the European SHEBA contest's catalogue. He represented Vienna on an European art exhibition tour, and became a gallery artist.

In 1995, he was invited to paint portraits of Singapore's founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, and was invited by him to live in Singapore.

Since 1996, he has lived in Singapore, held many exhibitions and art exchange activities in Asia, Europe, America and China, and has award-winning works in major museums, galleries and with private art collectors.

September 2015, the Tianjin Art Museum held an exhibition called "Spiritual Exchange," which featured his work.

Fall season, the Tianjin Cultural Center Galleries ushered in an "International Range of Masters," the painting exhibition. Eighty oil painting works were on display, and included a variety of genres: the existing classical realism, but also abstract aesthetic and fantastic realism. For subject matter, there are people, animals, landscapes, flowers and still life. During the exhibition, art world celebrities and artists, including He Jiaying, Jia Guangjian, Li Yifeng, were among the admiring general audience. All stood and lingered, admiring and impressed by the magnificent painters' imagination and virtuosity, not wanting to leave.

The master of this exhibition is the artist Cheng Yajie,

Ow residing in Singapore. The life of Cheng Yajie has been steadily restrained, refined and humble, but he is also enthusiastic, dedicated and energetic, and all who meet him, say he looks younger than his actual age. But the context of the Chinese art world includes a group of bald, bearded, pipe-in-the-mouth older painters, and he is often mistaken for a "tidal range of children," the entrepreneur of a computer age.

He graduated from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. In the eighties and nineties he traveled to Japan, the Soviet Union and Austria to study.

"Interesting to say, when I am in Singapore, I am regarded as being from there, and when in Beijing, I am regarded as being from there. But I have insisted to the media that I am from Tianjin, and my greatest wish is to make a contribution for that city!"

Now, his wish has come true; the Tianjin Overseas Friendship Association and the Tianjin Art Museum jointly sponsored the "Spiritual Exchange," the - Cheng Yajie exhibition, September 26 to October 10, 2015 in the Tianjin Art Museum. And so he is rewarded for loving the people of his hometown.

Art knows no geographical boundaries, though, and Cheng Yajie had a lifetime longing to visit the home of exotic oil painting, by making a pilgrimage to it's homeland, in the Soviet Union. It was with this idea, in 1990, and with his relative's financial support, that he traveled to the Soviet Union Suri Clain Academy of Fine Arts. Unfortunately, this wonderful school life only lasted for a year, then the Soviet Union disintegrated. Social unrest forced Cheng Yajie to reluctantly bid farewell to this piece of land full of artistic spirituality, this art of the Holy Land, to another - Vienna.

In Vienna, the famous Wolfgang Hutter had founded the art movement of fantastic realism. He went to Hutter's "Master Class" to enroll, but when he arrived at the Academy of Applied Arts, registration had ended, and candidates were lined up outside the campus in a long queue waiting for an interview. Helpless, he could only bite the bullet and wait. Then a friend led him to a back door, where he went down some stairs directly to the examination room.

When Hutter arrived, he was suited, silver-haired, and a really extraordinary gentleman. Turning to Cheng Yajie for an interview, Yajie did not speak German! But he showed Hutter a few pieces of his work and in broken English said "These are my paintings, please have a look." Hutter viewed them individually, then at the "Silver Blosson" he stopped and asked: "Is this your painting?" Cheng Yajie replied: "Yes." "If this is your painting, you have very good at it, you no longer have to learn!"

Hutter said very definitely. Cheng Yajie's' heart grew cold, thinking that Hutter did not want him. But Hutter whispered to his assistant, and said "You do not have to take entrance exams, I've made an exceptional admission decision for you." In this way, Cheng Yajie became Hutter's only oriental student.

Like a person who had come from thousands of miles to an Europe Art "pilgrimage," this Chinese person, Chengya Jie, spent some of his most proudest moments in Vienna. Every day, he kept turning like a gyro, with Hutter, learning fantasy realism. He also studied the production, maintenance and repair of paintings and architecture, imagining that after graduation, he would like to go to the Louvre in Paris to work daily restoring master paintings, which would be a pleasant thing!

Opportunities always favor those who are prepared. In is second year of his Master Class, he learned of a famous European art contest, SHEBA. When Cheng Yajie learned of this, not only had registration ended, but the candidates works had been collected. He did not want to give up, but had no ready-made works. What to do? He enlisted the help of a collector who had purchased some of his paintings. Visiting the collector at his home, Cheng Yajie saw that he had a lively daughter running around in the house, and a cute kitten playing.

Suddenly, he had an idea. Realizing that a cat food company sponsored the Sheba contest, he thought that a painting with a girl and a cat might be effective. With two days to work, he enlisted two adults and a child to pose as models, with the kitten in her arms. He set them in position, until they had a good pose. Then he quickly composed an outline, in color. The cat and the child began running around; the adults tried to calm them both down. Yajie drew a few strokes, and began to fill in the picture. Amid the confusion, he added some finishing touches, depicting the child's demeanor.

A week later, the selection results were announced, Yajie's "My Precious" was on the list! At that time, Professor Hutter happily hugged me and kissed me, because I give him the glory!" Cheng Yajie he said. Next, "My Precious" toured Europe, he has paintings in many famous art museums, collectors homes, a gallery contract, .... as if overnight, he became a star, eyes bright.

The "Girl with a Cat" (now called "My Precious") made him famous in Europe overnight

The language "Esperanto" depicts a beautiful dream. What is a realistic dream? Fantastic Realism is the fusion of dream and reality in a very dramatic form. By using a symbolism and metaphor approach, it expresses the artist's subjective world and life experience.

The maximum gain Cheng Yajie received from realism and fantasy founder Hutter was learning how to use his eyes to discover nature, and natural performance. In other words, it is to draw what other people people do not see. In reading the works of Hutter, Cheng Yajie has has noticed considerable differences between an Eastern and Western view of the world. Hutter's color of flowers ,to human understanding and performance, is entirely in the West. The spirit realm and the Oriental view is completely different. How huge is the gap between Eastern and Western cultures, and how to find a balance point, to fit the two? In other words, as a Chinese painter, he can not speak the "German", but must use "Esperanto," a common language, to let people understand and become aware.

Then he thought of a doll. Childhood is something that has no cultural borders. As Esperanto bridges cultures through a common language, so he attempts to bridge east - west cultures through dolls, such as Barbie, and other toys that children can understand and love. The innocence of childhood is one of mankind's most pure and lovely qualities; it reflects psychological and emotional factors, like a transparent and beautiful mirror. In his doll series, the characters are all kinds of material toys, and around them is sweet stuff, from chocolates to lollipops. He has Santa Claus with a bear, a duck that "whispers", Mickey Mouse encountering Japanese girls, a bear with ducks in its lap, children listening to Mama tell stories of the past"; he lets Pavoratti become a fat duck, with the Vienna Children's Choir singing together "I Love Beijing Tianamen."Butterflies, lemon drops, playing cards and so on become cultural symbols, interspersed in pictures so that East and West, between reality and fantasy, blend together. At this stage, because of his creations being compared to people speaking Esperanto, when the works exhibited in Vienna, the audience could not tell which country the painter had come from.

In the image of painting, he discovered the "New World"

Chengya Jie's creative thinking includes many diverse styles. He can paint classical, or realistic, and he can paint a very dreamy, but beautiful scene. But there is a principle that he has always insisted on: never repeat himself. This year, Chengya Jie discovered his "New World," a new creative method - "Image" painting.

He has recently contracted with a French art brokerage company. Under this contract, the company will sponsor his new painting design, packaging and positioning, and hold a world tour including France, Switzerland, Dubai, Singapore, New York, Seoul and cities in ten countries. The first project is to invite him to the south of France's "Blue Coast" for travel sketches. Here, he will be fully immersed in the "back garden of God," a charming landscape. He has already painted twilight shrouded scenes in a mystery courtyard in Nice, Monaco's winding roads leading to a palace, stone walls and colorful paintings of Marseille trees ......One day, at a Nice beach, a beautiful French girl caught his eye, as if a "mermaid" had jumped out of the fog covering the sea. At that moment, his fingertips became curiously enchanted as he sketched this girl. Subsequent poetic sketches inspired by this moment initially produced respectful silence from the French viewers, then words of praise: "Mr. Cheng, your sketching ability is so strong, the color is so beautiful, and of such aesthetic value, that this is not a general sketch, but your mind and emotions materialized! " They had an idea, and gave his work a new title for this new concept: "Image Painting."

Hus, in addition to landscapes, he produces a large body of painting and sketches. The oil paintings are rich; the watercolors drip colors; the ink drawings are elegant, with simple and smooth lines. It can be said, these are different aesthetic concepts and methods of abstract and figurative; realistic and impressionistic sides of these things. Through grafting and compounding, this results in a surprising and fascinating artistic effect. For example, his watercolor sketches "Waterlilies," with a lightly colored background and fluent, concise lines sketched out from the young woman's body and gesture, give a relaxed, casual look and feel. "Eve" is an example of pure classical oil painting techniques, with a thin dye layered over and over again, to illustrate the female body's skin elasticity and texture, her muscles plump and mellow and delicate nuanced, awakens people to the good things of the imagination and desire.

In summary, Cheng Yajie hopes to merge the cultures of east and west through his art work. He is accomplished in various styles and modes of artistic expression, and refers to his recent work as Image Painting. He is gaining an international audience, and is working to expand appreciation of this concept by contributing to the cultural development of his homeland, and furthering a peaceful coexistence and understanding between these cultures.
